Reviews

so far, so good

"I bought this bass to get practice in on the road, as I fly M-F about every other week and rentals are too expensive. I also don't trust airport ground crews to not destroy my gig bass. I love how similar the feel of the neck is to my full sized bass, and the action is nearly perfect. I'll be taking it on its first flight next week, and I'm looking forward to carrying it on the plane and getting practice time in from a hotel room"

With this rig, I can keep on bassing!

"Old shoulder injuries were getting so bad that I thought I was going to have to lay my bass down forever. The Traveler 5-string Bass brought me back. It's a little different to work with. I need to EQ out highs and mids and I did get a volume pedal to have a little more control, but it's a blast!"

It takes some getting used to

"I will take this on my 5 weeks in Europe. I play the stand up bass and find that this is quite different. I have been practicing to change my right hand pluck. On the stand up I am quite aggressive with my plucks and thumps and slaps. That doesn’t work on this bass! lol"

I can play bass for an infinite amount of time now

"This is exactly what I wanted. The bass with no extra weight. I wish it had knobs and a better pick up maybe it can be upgraded some way because I love this body specifically! The tuning is easy, but if you plug it into a full size amp prepare to fiddle with the knobs to stop extra ringing and noise from the body. The body does pick up a lot of sound especially from the back but playing messing with amp knobs or a filter will get rid of it. The weight is probably the best part I can play forever now without the weight of a full size bass pulling my neck to the ground. I can’t wait to change the strings, I’ll update my review once I do on that experience."

A bit of an adjustment

"I thought the biggest adjustment I would have to make would be switching to short scale, but I was wrong, the biggest adjustment is the nut width. This little thing has the same width as my Music Man 5 string. The pickup makes this bass sound more like an acoustic bass than electric. Luckily I had some open slots on my Katana:Go, because I have to use a very different EQ for the Ultra-Light than for any of my full sized basses. The thing that surprised me the most is how well balanced the Ultra-Light is. I expected to deal with the kind of neck drop you see on cheap-o beginner basses, but this one stays in place perfectly with a strap."

Ultra Light 5

"Nice bass. Great looks. Getting used to 5 strings, low B throws me off. I've been playing bass since 1975. And playing in A Brand New Hat since 1987. We play acoustic rock and bluegrass. I heep looking for the lightest bass and the Ultra Light is light weight, possibly lighter than my U-Bass. The sound is on the treble side of the spectrum. It's the nature of the beast. I'm going to try a stompbox equalizer into a Hartke KB12. This is my first 5. The low B will take some getting used to. The neck is longer than my Gibson and real long compared to Guild Jumbo Junior or Kala U-Bass. This is my third Ultra Light. I also have the Acoustic with Piezo under the saddle and Electric with stacked mini humbucker. Love them both."

Not just for travels or small hands

"Super light and sounds great! Perfect for traveling around for 3 month in Europe. Fits nicely in my smaller hands but full size hands would manage it just fine. Got it playing through my Spark Go which fits in the pocket of the gig bag and I’m set! Love this!"

It’s perfect

"I couldn’t stand playing my bass because it was so big and heavy. This ultra light bass solves that problem perfectly."

Looks and feels great but

"Looks and feels great but have not had a chance to hook up and test yet- just wanted to also give a shout out to Jake at Traveler Guitar for his super follow-ups and help in getting this delivered to me within a narrow timeline!"

Beyond my expectations

"I have owned basses all my life. Kept them tuned and on display where I could see them. They were all too heavy for me to hold. I bought this one in sheer desperation, my last try. I have put on black tape wound strings for my fingers. I will be 79 soon and I can finally get started. The best quality instrument I have ever held. Thank you for giving me my dream."
